welcome to carol on the road!
Hi! Welcome to Carol on the road and thank you for stopping by. As the title says, this blog is about my travels all over the world. There is already some great info here about places I’ve visited as well as details about where I’m headed next. Check out my travel list of “must see and do”. In the start here section, find quick links to navigate this site. Are you looking to see if I’ve traveled to somewhere you are thinking you might like to visit? Destinations is the place to start. And in stories from the road I’ve included some photo collages of some of my favorite destinations.
Why am I starting a travel blog? Well, as much as I would like to travel for a living that is not my reality at the moment and I’m guessing that’s true for most people reading this blog. We have regular jobs where we go to work and have to plan travel around the rest of our busy lives. I want to provide not only beautiful pictures and stories about places I’ve been, but also some practical advice for making the most of the time you have to travel so you can enjoy every moment! You’ll find that, since I’m a pastry chef, my blog contains perhaps a little more food than usual and probably more pastry then is healthy— especially if I’m in a place well known for food! How can I resist?
I want you to know that I take photographs for these stories myself. I’m not a professional photographer by any means – as you can tell! – I just try to capture my experiences in a way that is memorable for me and hopefully relates some of that experience to you as well. You will also only find me writing about places I have actually visited and activities I’ve participated in. I might mention something I missed or didn’t have time to do but I won’t recommend it unless I’ve tried it!
My travel style depends on where I’m headed. For our walk through Italy, we stayed in pilgrim lodgings in order to get a sense of that spirit of the road. For my upcoming trip to Paris, I am planning on a nice boutique hotel in the Marais district. I try to make the experience fit the location and I’m never afraid to go outside my comfort zone. On my trip to the southwest, I felt like being as close to nature as possible was important, telling stories around the campfire and sleeping under the stars. So, I booked a camping trip and slept in a tent!
Please have a look around – I’m so glad you’re here! As always, this blog, like most others, is a work in progress. Content will change as my travels continue and I share some of my favorite travel ideas and tips. I’d love to chat with you here and I will also post on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. Please join me by following along here and travel with me on the road.
